ABOUT SIKKIM

Sikkim is a state in northeast India, bordered by Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal. Part of the Himalayas, the area has a dramatic landscape that includes India’s highest mountain, 8,586m Kangchenjunga. Sikkim is also home to glaciers, alpine meadows and thousands of varieties of wildflowers. Steep paths lead to hilltop Buddhist monasteries such as Pemayangtse, which dates to the early 1700s.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra, near Siliguri, 96 km from Darjeeling. Bagdogra Airport is 2.5 hours by road from Darjeeling and 2 hours by air from Delhi, and 50 minutes by air from Kolkata.

Kalimpong is a slope station in the Indian territory of West Bengal. It is situated at a normal rise of 1,250 meters (4,101 ft). The town is the home office of the Kalimpong region. The Indian Army's 27 Mountain Division is situated on the edges of the town.

Kalimpong is known for its instructive organisations, huge numbers of which were set up amid the British provincial period.[5] It used to be a passage in the exchange among Tibet and India before China's extension of Tibet and the Sino-Indian War. Kalimpong and neighbouring Darjeeling were real focuses requiring a different Gorkhaland state during the 1980s, and all the more as of late in 2010..
